Sunday, April 7th Cleanup of Waller Creek
group member Patrick Dowell picking up cigarette butts
On a warm Sunday, my group decided to "take action" by walking through Waller Creek and cleaning up trash as we went. Two volunteers, Daniel Wallach and Terresa Jeffries, were generous enough to join us. We walked through the creek for a little over an hour and filled up six trash bags with litter. Plastic products like cups or bags made up the majority of the trash we picked up, along with a large amount of cigarette butts and aluminum cans.
Our cleanup was both easy and fun. I would highly recommend any other Austinites with some free time to head to any high-populous area in Austin with some friends and pick up trash. Even easier would be to join a pre-organized cleanup by Keep Austin Beautiful or another organization. See the Keep Austin Beautiful website for more information and details. But however you want to do it, get out there and clean!
